Please Help us!

Dear Sirs/Editor In Chief

We would like to request any and every assistance you can supply in securing my fathers release from kidnap.

My name is Mr Obinna Nwosuagwu and my my father's name is Mr Peter Otuomasirichi Nwosuagwu. He was born on the 21st of August, 1944. He worked in Shell as a procurement and Logistics manager with Shell Portharcourt for over 30 years and retired in1998.

We are from Umuoke, Umuwanwa of Umuahia South LGA. My community is popularly called Umuopara Community. Our house is the last Compound in the village before you get to the bridge that leads to Mbaise.

My father is very actively in involved in the Methodist Church infact the Methodist Church in Umuwanwa is called St. Peters Methodist Church. He is retired and is not into any business at all apart from being actively involved in the methodist church activities.

He went for an ordination service that commenced at 09:00 hours at the St Peters Methodist Church on Sunday 14th June in Umunwanwa. It was an occasion that he was expected for. Before then he had not been to the village in 7 weeks.

At 1am on the same night(wee hours of 15th June) he was kidnapped by heavily armed men who shot sporadically at the villagers. No one was hurt though but my father was taken away. The kidnappers made their first call to my sister, Ugochi Nwachukwu at about 2am seeking N120mm ransom money. They went along with my fathers phone and have continually used the phone to make communications. His phone no. is 08033100042.

My sister told them that she would do her possible best to get money. The police was contacted immediately. The Rivers State command said it was not in their region thus they couldn't get involved. The Abia State command was also informed. A police report was registered at Ubakala Police Station. A report was also filed with The Joint Task Force Umuahia under Obinze. Police people from Umuahia did visit the house and take pictures but nothing more.

We have appealed to Shell Portharcourt to intervene but received very little support.

Mr Jerry Uzosike an Umuahia local councillor person involved in also informed some prominent people in the state. However we have not heard anything else from the Police.

We were adviced to tell mtn to trace the calls to the nearest location but they require an extract and a police escort that knows about the case. Unfortunately my sister who is the only one handling the case and lives in ph went to MTN in ph but the report was filed in Umuahia so they have to look for a way to get a police man from Umuahia.

As at Yesterday 16th June the ransom funds reduced to N20mm. We have raised all we have and it is at N7mm, however each time they call my father speaks to my sister and says we should continue to sell off things until we get the N20mm. As it stands today 17th June that is all we have. we simply cannot offer any more unless we go at borrowing some more money but we also do not want our father to be hurt. Friends have adviced that in our hurry to get him out we might actually not be helping matters.

As at now the kidnappers have called my sister again asking for recharge card of N1500. They also say they are relocating him this evening. They are flipping through all the names in my fathers phone and are calling all the people he knows to warn us to bring the money.

My father is presently recovering from a prostrate cancer operation we do worry for his frail condition.

Please help me sir however you can. He has sacrificed his life bringing up all 5 of us children. This is the time we are hoping to start repaying him and this happens.

As we have received very little support from the Abia State Government, we would like to request any support you can provide to make this case known so that more attention can be paid to negotiate his release.

Obinna Nwosuagwu
