NigerianNews Letter to the Editor

February 29, 2008

Dear Sir,

To The Nigerian Government.

This letter is addressed to the Nigerian Government, Nigerian Police force, but foremost and all importantly, to 'the people of Nigeria'. On my recent four week visit and travels throughout Nigeria, it was soon made very apparent to me, that it is not a misguided myth, but indeed a fact that..yes..Nigeria is indeed worldly known and famous for its corruption. Corruption, Corruption, Corruption and lots of it!!! In the past and in the present, corruption in Nigeria has reared its ugly head in many different shapes and forms, and in its path of destruction it leaves a trail of even more 'every-day' Nigerians struggling fruitlessly.

During my time in Nigeria, the most obvious form of corruption out there in the open for all to observe and to be struck by, is the Police corruption. Wielded with huge AK47 machine guns and attitudes to match, they do indeed intimidate the public. A police force should not be out there to intimidate, but to protect. Yes to Protect!!. I do not speak in such terms of all Nigerian Police officers, as I know there are those whom are doing grand jobs. Alas I did come across many behaving more like beggars and common thieves with there palms open at any possible cross road, and by means of intimidation squeezing even more money from the Nigerian people. Like leaches sucking that last drop of blood, leaving some Nigerians unable to even put food on the table!!.

Is this what the Nigerians as a Proud, Godly nation strive for and want??? I think not!! It seems that this sort of corruption is generally almost somewhat tolerated in Nigerian society..well it shouldn't be!! Change should be granted to help shape a new improved society, of honesty and integrity. Nigerians standing up for there civil rights! And hey..Wouldnt that police officer with his hand out for your last twenty naira, serve society better, by gaining respect from youngsters, while doing the rounds of schools speaking about such things as road safety or the ills of 419 email scams???

Dear Sir,

GoodDay

Haven been a staunch supporter of the fight against corruption, I am indeed pleased with this medium as it epitomizes everything that represents what should be if our country is to move forward. I need not speak much cos your accomplishment speak for itself.

I read your publication on the igbinedion story and have followed every report to the letter and i believe it is my moral obligation to endorse every viable venture that addresses the issues of corruption in the country and as a victim of the 8 year GRUBERMENT of the igbinedions and their cohorts.

I hereby use this medium to state my displeasure in a certain group of individuals whom besides all evidences and investigation has issued a statement on the media that the federal government as represented as the EFCC owe the igbinedions an apology for looting the states treasury and committing the impoverished citizens to debt.

Thanks for giving me this opportunity and keep the good work. thanks for being our partner in the fight against corruption.

Sincerely Yours
Salami Williams for Y.G.E
