Obasanjo vs Atiku: Is Chivalry Dead?
NigerianNews Editorial

It may be necessary to explain that we refer here strictly to the 13th century medieval chivalry code of conduct as applicable to Nigeria today. However, before the gullible distorts our non-partisan intention, the chivalry code of conduct we think should be imbibed by Nigerian Knights, Priests, Mullahs and Commoners is provided for all just by clicking here for a copy.

Having provided you our own understanding of the code of chivalry, we can now proceed to why we think this code is what Nigerians need but lack as political value system.

If you agree to check out the code above, you will be very surprised that not many of our politicians can pass the rigor of this simple code! It is amazing to hear from the Vice President about the joint heirship of fraud he allegedly shared with the president, and yet went to kick off his campaigns or was reported planning to do so, and went to court after his own self-confession. The Vice President thinks by revealing that the president is also a thief believes he has discharged his obligation under the code of chivalry as regards justice, so it is now business as usual. Even the press wrote about how Atiku has gone to court to consign the charges to the dust bin, without regards to the criminal self-confession of this Vice President.

In King Solomon's court, once upon a time, the woman who had nothing to lose urged the King to cut a baby in half! However, the real mother protested, saying when the baby grew up, it would find its way back to its real parentage and heritage. The lesson in this is, reserve your judgment about this VP's desire to subsume the President in his trouble. The VP plans seem to be, give the presidency to a third party if the president dares to ask for my impeachment!! His witness in this skim is also a fellow co-traveler who is also party to the indictment - Fasawe. At this point it only makes sense that the duo will work together, so let a thousand flowers bloom. We must also remember that there are three sides to this story; the VP and Fasawe's side, the President, and finally the real truth. The real truth is where the press men come in, and that is where they have failed. The only thing we are capable of determining right now is that the VP admits to being part of an illegality. Jesus Christ was once accused of healing people by the power of Beelzebub, to which He answered, should that be the case, would that not mean a house divided against itself? If the president was really involved in this scam as proffered by the VP's surrogate, can we not say this is a brain-dead president using documents that could actually finish him? Would this president not be indicting his deputy with the power of Beelzebub? We can hear now from some small minded people accusing us of comparing Obasanjo to Jesus Christ. We merely consider here Obasanjo's unlikely use of illegal method to secure legality.

We also know that the president friends at Transcorp are being arrested. At the NigerianNews, all we can say of this president is that he is a man with a mission. So let us stay tuned, and we hope the VP's friends in the National Assembly, who no doubt control it, will not use this occasion to debase justice. Hopefully they will not make it a case of if our man cannot become president, we will impeach you or give the presidency to a guy who may likely let us continue business as usual. We hope they will read the code of chivalry before they act.

Since the VP has convicted himself by admitting to this secret account maintained for the two men on top, let us prepare him for a convenient jail in Yola (we know he has immunity). This Vice President obviously knows nothing about the Code of Chivalry, to him, he has mutually destroyed his accuser, and so, it is now business as usual. If this Vice President is a honorable man, he should now abandon his quest for the presidency, and see if he can plea bargain to avoid that jail house in Yola we mentioned before after his vice presidential term. If he does follow the code of chivalry, we can then concentrate on the veracity of his claims against his boss. But this Vice President must be told in no uncertain terms that my boss is equally a thief like me is not a defence. Besides, his boss has not admitted to the same crime and he has in fact provided tons of alibi through surrogates. What is so pitiful about this Vice President is his flagrant disdain for the Nigerian people by kicking off his campaign after admitting this "joint crime" or even going to court after confession. Maybe what he is saying is, since the president is involved, it is no crime, so let's go kick off our campaign!! At no time do we say maintaining a joint account is a crime, what is now very clear is that the money in this account is of unwholesome origin. We also know the Vice President and The president have no spousal affiliation.

One paper proclaimed "CURIOUSER and curiouser" and another said "Senate May Not Debate Report On Atiku". None of these papers ever asked how he could be kicking off his campaign when he has just admitted to a crime in contravention of part of or all of section 137 of the Nigerian constitution? Is Chivalry really dead?  It appears Nigerian papers do not know their roles or they are so neck deep in similar chicanery, they cannot play a watchdog role even if they try. A previously impressive writer talked the other day of "bolekaja presidency" rather than seeing the opportunity to clean the stinking Aegean stables. When this is all done, it may be necessary for Nuhu Ribadu to turn his searchlight on the forth estate of the realm to unmask possible corruptions. As it is now, the Nigerian people are clearly ahead of them in knowing right from wrong. Our Editorial on Monday clearly showed that, judging by the volume of emails we received. Atiku will get a shock of his life if he does not listen to what people are saying, for he has listened so much to his compatriot in arm and hangers-on journalists and politicians alike for too long. At the extreme, we now see the horror of speculative journalism practiced by these people of the press. They are concerned only about their perceived permutation of outcome of events and not the honorable road to the outcome of events. The curious thing is in a Vice President who admits operating an illegal bank account with the president and the press not shouting aloud that they have just been provided the smoking gun. He, the VP confessed it himself. However this press went to report that the VP is floating his campaign without saying wait a minute, not so fast, what about the crime you just confessed to as well as what section 137 of the constitution said about it? The administrative panel which he consented to has been proven right, what is left is the determination of the president's involvement and culpability in this crime. We are yet to see how a president would be so stupid as to skim out a crime to indict his deputy using evidence replete with his own messy finger prints. It seems the VP considers becoming a president takes precedence over the disgrace he has caused the office he currently occupies. Or does the VP think his incrimination of the president provides an exculpatory ladder to climb out of this crime?

The constitution confers immunity on a thieving Vice President and President. The National Assembly which should deliver us from the clutch of Atiku is populated essentially by Atiku's comrade in common cause, so impeachment is shamefully out of the question. However, Nuhu Ribadu and INEC can stop this VP from coming back to further violate us after May 29, 2007. The President must be presumed innocent at this point, for only Atiku has admitted illegality. However, the president is on his way out even if he is not guilty of the same offence,  and that will happen on May 29,2007. For parity reason and if he is guilty, we can only ask for disgraceful exist that denies him of national voice again forever. If the National Assembly will not impeach their kingpin, it will be immoral for them to also impeach the President if he is guilty of this crime (hopefully the 127 offences squad are tired by now). However, this National Assembly would concoct any cockamamie reason to impeach this president if they could. To them a solution in which the president is swept away, guilty or not, is just fine. So the other alternative path they seek is mutually assured destruction path for both the president and the vice president that allows a third guy to be brought in for few months in a deal that brings us to another monstrosity.

However, Atiku may still not have the rest of us to kick around anymore if Ribadu and INEC act on time to save us, for we dread our president being arrested overseas one of these days for a sin of the past bothering on graft.
